ABOUT
ILYA KEXHOLMSKY
Ilya Kexholmsky is a contemporary professional graphic artist, painter, and graphic designer. He lives and works in St. Petersburg. He studied at the St.Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design and is a member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists, Department of Graphics. For many years, he has been working in the field of identity and illustration, but since 2019, he has been predominantly engaged in graphic art. He has participated in a numer of art exhibitions in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Helsinki, London, and other cities. His works are held in private collections in Russia and other countries.
To express his artistic vision, Ilya Kexholmsky employs the power of simple yet impactful materials such as graphite or charcoal. A distinctive feature of his work is strong, confident lines that convey emotions and depth with minimalist use of color. Archetypal symbols are an important component of his graphics. Ilya Kexholmsky aims to imbue each of his sheets with layers of symbolic and intuitive meaning. One technique the artist employs is "stream drawing," allowing unconscious symbols and contexts to flow onto the sheet, inviting viewers to interact with their own images and emotions.
